We're Gonna Sing in the Dark. And You're Invited, Sister!
I woke up this morning to the sounds of birds singing loudly. It was still dark outside and I could also hear rain falling. I laid in bed and thought about our amazing God who loves His creatures and His beautiful world...about how the birds were singing loudly in the dark and the rain! Hmmmm.
I was compelled to get up and open our back door to our deck and record a brief video on my phone:
Did the birds believe the sun was going to rise soon and scatter the darkness? Did they know and trust their Creator as "the Light of the world...knowing there is no darkness in Him?" (John 8:12)
Did the song birds know the rain is really a reminder of His Reign over all the earth? "For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet" (1 Corinthians 15:25).
What about us, as His children, His creatures? What do we believe? Do we believe God is who He says He is? The Protector and Provider of His People. The Savior. Defender. Friend of His People. Jesus. Lord. King of Glory. Ruler of All.
Matthew 6:25 - 33 gives us every reason to trust, love and obey our Lord God who unconditionally loves and cares for us as His children. So why do we fret so often? Why do we worry so much instead of singing our way out of our dark places?
Why don't we praise Him in the dark? Why won't we praise Him with the songs of our hearts?
After my sweet inspiration with the birds, the darkness, the rain and my LORD, I realized I had to repent and ask my loving Father to forgive me. I don't always sing in the dark. There are times when I whine and complain and worry and fret.
Sisters, we need to start singing in the dark. And an opportunity is coming soon to our community to jump start all of us into doing just that! The women's ministry at Mt. Zion Church in Canton, GA, is hosting NIGHT OF PRAISE.
We're going to "party before the LORD" and celebrate His greatness and His goodness. We're going to praise His Name for Who He is. That is what He wants and that's what will send healing and help to our broken hearts. Yep.
A very talented worship leader (and sweet friend of mine) who is anointed -- yes, I said anointed by God -- will lead us in a powerful, joyful worship. Her name is Alison Everill and her passion is to celebrate and glorify God with the talents He has given her. She encourages and blesses so many through the music that comes from her heart of worship.

And then we'll have a testimony during our NIGHT OF WORSHIP from a dear sister in the Lord, Nora Joiner, who has recently survived colon cancer surgery. She is back at work! Here is a snippet of her story of the life-giving power of the blood of Jesus Christ. (Yes, I caught her off guard with my phone video taping her without much warning but she is never shy about sharing the goodness of her God!)
It's time to start singing in the dark, Sisters. Yes, this world is a dark place but God tells us we "are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14) and when we open our mouths and raise our hands together in praise we can scatter that darkness.
LIKE I CAN
"For you spoke into the dark
empty places of my heart
brought me back to life
by the mercy of your hand
now I know You in ways that
angels cannot comprehend...
...So let the rocks cry out
and every forest clap their hands
but they can never praise you like I can

Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt HIS name together!
