Do You Tremble?

Recently during one of our weekly Mt. Zion Church 5:16 Prayer Gatherings I tried to pray but I felt overwhelmed. I think it was a combination of the number of prayer requests, the reality of knowing it pleased our Holy God for us to gather, and my struggle to hear the Holy Spirit lead me in where to start.

Then I realized why I was trembling; the Holy Spirit was reminding me of the verse for which our prayer gathering was named, "The fervent prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective." (James 5:16). Wow. Yes. Powerful. Effective.
The supernatural power of the Spirit of God works through our prayers to move mountains, redeem, save, heal, restore, provide, and protect -- all in accordance with His will.

What sank deep in my soul in those moments was acknowledging that to be a faithful child of God includes privileges and responsibilities. When He changes our hearts and we become His family, He fills us to overflowing with spiritual power and blessings. And I knew that when I gathered with our church family to pray -- there was Holy Spirit power ready to be unleashed by God. Whew. Trembling. I started to pray in faith that the Spirit would direct me. He did. It was for His glory!

BOOM.  "The Word of God is living and active..." (Hebrews 4:12). Early the next morning after the prayer gathering, I was led to this passage and I couldn't get past the words living and active. So I just stayed on my knees and dug deeper in the Scriptures. It's God's word. It's ALIVE. It's ACTIVE.

And I found more gold:

  • "...so is My Word that goes out of My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it" (Isaiah 55:11).
  • "...which you heard from us you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is the Word of God, which is at work in you who believe" (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
  • "Is not My word like fire, declares the Lord and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" (Jeremiah 23:29).

Power. Not man-made. God-power! God's Word. God's Son. God's Spirit. THAT power. Are we trembling yet at His majestic power?  Well, all that power in us is the same holy power that raised Jesus from the dead! (Ephesians 1:19-20). Do we believe it? Do we tap into this power in accordance to how we think, live, and pray?

I think maybe it's like the parable of the talents...Jesus is going to ask us, "What did you do with all that power, privilege, and blessings I gave you?"
