The Path to Overcoming a Self-Centered Life




The path to overcoming a self-centered life is paved with self-denial. Self-denial is actually spelled L-O-V-E.

But make no mistake, this LOVE is God's way of loving. "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves" (Romans 9-10).

This love is very powerful, unstoppable, and produces so much fruit. It produces fruit that will last. It's unconditional love and Jesus wants us to love like that. This kind of love heals all kinds of problems. Most of all it is deliverance from a self-centered life! And boy, does that bring all kinds of freedom and abundant living!

So where do we get this kind of cure? God has spelled it out for us in Scripture.
"Love is patient
Love is kind
It does not envy
It does not boast
It is not proud
It does not dishonor others
It is not self-seeking
It is not easily angered
It keeps no record of wrongs
Love does not delight in evil
But rejoices with the truth
It always protects
Always trusts
Always hopes
Always perseveres.
Love never fails."
1 Corinthians 10:4-8.


What a beautiful picture of Christ. He wants us to live like this. Whoa.This is a list of life-giving truth. To meditate on each attribute will take us a lifetime of study and application but the rewards of living with such love will be immeasurable! The journey down this path would be life-changing and world-changing!

Sure, everyone wants to receive love. But everyone is not willing to give love because it is a personal sacrifice of self. And that requires humility on our part.



I've obviously been challenged by this passage of Scripture because I know the truth that the love of Christ in us is able to demolish strongholds, heal, bless, restore, encourage,  crumble walls and move mountains. Look at Ephesians 3:20 and read how God is able to do far abundantly more than we can ask or think. 

But it all starts with love. I'm down for this huge challenge because I know the truth: Jesus says, it's "the most excellent way."

soul starving...anorexic faith

If I don't take a few brief moments to talk to God before my feet hit the floor in the morning, then I'll be starving my own soul of the strength and nourishment I'm going to need for the new day. I'll be hungry listening to my own voice, focusing on my own circumstances, and coming to my own conclusions about life. Yikes. Huge mistake. Why? God created me, saved me, unconditionally loves me and generously cares for me and I would ignore Him? "He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He himself gives all men life and breath and everything else" (Acts 17:25). BOOM! So if I chew on this truth for a while -- that all things come from Him and He controls everything -- why wouldn't I be hungry to know more of this Magnificent Savior? The Wisdom Lady

🎶  Worship Leader Grace Balint sings "Stronger"  🎶 I've met the wisdom lady.  I first met her many years ago in the book of Proverbs. God had just opened my heart to know Him so I was ready for the wisdom lady to open her heart to me! When I read her practical, rich words of life  I thought to myself. "Wow. Really? This is powerful. This is good stuff. This is so simple and wonderful...and these beautiful promises!"  Yep. Since then she's become a mentor to my soul. But not before God sent me through many painful storms and dark valleys over the years to show me it was not wise for me to try to control my little world. Hah! I admit it. Control issues cause pain.
