My Friend Nora
This photo:
Nora & I met once a week during her lunch break at Woodmont Golf & Country Club in Canton, GA, from 2009 -- 2010 for a devotional study and prayer time in the Ladies Locker Room/Lounge. She was attending the Woodmont Ladies Bible Study (2000-2009) with us when she was able to take a break from her work at the club.
My Friend Nora
At the time of this writing Jesus has gently taken hold of Nora's hand. She’s now receiving Hospice care 24/7 and Jesus is preparing her to come with Him to her heavenly home very soon. Her loving, broken-hearted family knows Jesus is close enough to be holding her hand, preparing them to let her go to be with Him. They’ve remained close by her physically and emotionally watching her health rapidly decline in her long battle with cancer.
Many hearts are broken at the thought that soon Nora will not be here with us all. Her radiant presence, her smile, her love, her prayers for others, and her beautiful, humble spirit will be missed terribly.
Nora is one of my best friends. Her consistent, humble spirit is so rare in our present culture. When I met her over 10 years ago it was obvious she walked very closely with God and passionately sought to please Him in everything she did. She loves people unconditionally. That’s rare, too.
She prays for everyone who crosses her path. If they didn’t know Jesus then she’d fervently pray they would soon become one of His faithful followers.
Nora, unknowingly, has showed me how to be a more Christ-like friend. She has loved me unconditionally and been an encouraging cheerleader and powerful prayer partner over the years. She’s unselfish and is known by so many people for having the true heart of a godly servant.
She’s tender-hearted and doesn’t seek to impress others. She’s too humble and Christ-centered to worry about what people think of her. She just always wants to love God, love her family, and love everyone else.
As her daughter Julie said, “Mom is a caretaker and a caregiver.” Yes. Nora loves to serve others.
Hey, there’s a huge neighborhood called Woodmont Golf & Country Club in Canton, GA, where Nora has made her mark just by faithfully, diligently going the extra mile every day, working there for 10 years. She’s also been a highly-valued spiritual force in the Woodmont Ladies Bible study that lasted nine years.
These are very difficult days for her sweet family and for all who know and love Nora. And I am compelled to publicly acknowledge what a dynamic impact of God’s love and joy Nora has made in our surrounding community!
Nora Joiner is truly a gift of God’s love, joy, and grace to us all. All glory to God!
With a grateful heart,
Polly Balint
