How To Get Sweet Sleep
This sweet little guy is our grandson. His name is Jesse. He looks peaceful, doesn't he? Sure he does! He's asleep! But if he was frightened or anxious he would not be sleeping. He'd be restless and probably crying or fussing.
But he's not anxious. For one thing, he trusts his parents. He trusts all those who make up his huge family, and are blessed to be his caretakers, too. He trusts the people who love him, feed him, clothe him, protect him, teach him, hug him, dance with him, read to him, and laugh loudly with him. Yes, Jesse loves to laugh. He's free to live his life out loud. He's extremely adventurous, curious, and fearless. One of the new nicknames I have for him is "Lil Houdini." He knows he's well-loved and apparently believes his caretakers will never stop their loving care of him.
That's how we, as God's children, should be living; out loud and fully alive! We should have the joys and wonder of child-like faith! We should be believing God our Father loves us unconditionally and is faithful to keep all of His promises! Look at the promises of His love and power in these verses: "Your Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made" (Psalm 145:13).
God has given 15-month-old Jesse a godly heritage of several generations of Christian family members who are in his life right now!
He's already being taught how to live for Jesus and he's very responsive to prayer and worship. He's so teachable because of His child-like faith. There's so much joy and love instead of anxiety in him. He's learning to live and walk in truth.
The invitation to this life of freedom from sin, shame and guilt is right here, Sister: Come to Jesus. Become a whosoever with us! "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
When we come to Jesus we start our supernatural journey with the triune God: we know God as our Father, we're forgiven for our sins by the blood of Jesus our Lord and Savior, we're guided and counseled by the Holy Spirit when read His word, and when He speaks to our hearts. God the Father hears and answers prayers that reveal His wise and amazing ways.
But most importantly, we have to believe the promises of God for them to become alive in us. If we are just hearers and not followers, the power of
God will remain dormant inside of us.
Look at these promises from God:
My son, preserve sound judgement and discernment,
Do not let them out of your sight;
They will be life for you,
An ornament to grace your neck.
Then you will go on your way in safety,
And your foot will not stumble;
When you lie down your sleep will be sweet.
Proverbs 3:21-24
I lift my eyes to the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD
The Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip
He who watches over you will not slumber
Indeed He who watches over you
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you
The LORD is your shade at your right hand
The sun will not harm you by day
Nor the moon by night.
The LORD will watch over
Your coming and going
Both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121
Words of truth from a loving Father. When we believe them as little children, they also become our source of sweet sleep.
