The COVID-19 Tsunami

The thief comes to only to steal, kill, and destroy;

 I have come that you may have life, and have it in abundance. 

John 10:10

The COVID-19 tsunami appears to have covered the earth as the waters have covered the sea. Yes, the highly contagious Corona Virus --discovered in 2019 -- is ravaging continents and taking many lives in its wake. 

But as Christ followers we are after the TRUTH in every situation. The truth is the virus is not ruling the earth. There is a much Higher Authority who is keeping close watch on all He has made. The virus is not in control of mankind, God is. He is the Truth. He is working out His plan and purposes for His creation. "Jesus said, 'All authority in heaven and earth has been given to Me" (Matthew 28:18).

It's heart-breaking to see so much suffering all over the world from this flu. America isn't immune, COVID-19 reached our shores and deaths, job loss, fear, anxiety, financial loss, governmental shutdowns of schools and small businesses resulted to keep the virus from spreading. The entire world is experiencing this outrageous storm.

But those of us who know God and with overwhelming thankfulness follow Jesus and the leading of the Holy Spirit, know He only has to say three words to the tsunami virus and it will be gone off the face of the earth. And it will happen in His time and it will be good. Very good because He is so good.

We can choose to get sucked into all this global, media-driven frenzy mounting from people with unbelieving hearts. Or we can "Trust God and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:3-4). Ask ourselves how can we do good and help those who are hurting? Start with prayer and keep aware what else we can do as we wait for God for fulfill His promise to heal our land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Maybe our ongoing quarantine is God's way of telling us to "slow down, stay home and take care of your household, get on your knees and look UP." Maybe? Maybe taking away our some of our coveted toys and habits is the only way we'll put Him first.

God has not removed Himself from us in all this crazy season. He has promised us, not  even a global virus -- "nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God" (Romans 8:37-39). He has provided miracle after miracle of His people gathering through the Internet: countless online worship services, Bible studies, Life Groups, sermons online, prayer chains. Yes! God's people are connecting globally like never before! He is working behind the scenes and through our prayers! The Holy Spirit in the human spirit has risen in people to lead worship songs on top of buildings, worship songs sung from balconies in Italy, Boston, and beyond. It's the outpouring of His love!

God is moving, Brothers and Sisters. He promises He will move through the fervent prayers of His people. He is doing it. Let's bow down to His promise to us: 2 Chronicles 7:14, for starters. And wait on His timing for Him to tell the tsunami three words,  '"Peace! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm." (Mark 4:39).

He is the LORD. He is the Faithful One and He will do it. That's the truth.
