the devil is a bully

God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves then, to God. 
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
James 4:6-7

The devil really is a bully.

Think about it. Bullies are bent on intimidating their prey. Bullies say cruel things. Bullies lie. Bullies are tremendously insecure. Bullies make lots of noise with their angry threats. Bullies seek to control others to make themselves feel better. They stalk their prey and look for a weak spot to attack with bitterness.

Sounds just like the devil, doesn't it?

When children are bullied by other children they should run, not walk, to a wise, trusted adult for protection and to stop the cruel behavior. The bullied child should get help immediately in order to shine the light on the darkness of being bullied.

When God's children are bullied by the devil we should run to the Father who gives us the power to overcome this evil -- He promises we can resist his wicked threats.

We don't have to listen to the bully, the devil. We don't have to be intimidated by worldly people. We can stop listening to him. We can stop being intimidated by the comparison snare of our culture.We have a choice! God gives us the choice!

There is a secret to resisting the devil and our Lord tells us His secret in these verses:

Submit yourselves, then to God. 
Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 
Come near to God and He will come near to you. 
Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 
Grieve, mourn, and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. [Repent of your sins.] 
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.
James 4:7-10

Of these verses, (James 4:7-10) my Bible commentary states: "These verses contain 10 commands, each of which is so stated in Greek that it calls for immediate action in rooting out the sinful attitude of pride." 

Pride. Our enemy is  full of lies.

Jesus. Our LORD and Savior who fights for us. (Jeremiah 20:11). He will not tolerate bullies and neither should we.

soul starving...anorexic faith

If I don't take a few brief moments to talk to God before my feet hit the floor in the morning, then I'll be starving my own soul of the strength and nourishment I'm going to need for the new day. I'll be hungry listening to my own voice, focusing on my own circumstances, and coming to my own conclusions about life. Yikes. Huge mistake. Why? God created me, saved me, unconditionally loves me and generously cares for me and I would ignore Him? "He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He himself gives all men life and breath and everything else" (Acts 17:25). BOOM! So if I chew on this truth for a while -- that all things come from Him and He controls everything -- why wouldn't I be hungry to know more of this Magnificent Savior? The Wisdom Lady

🎶  Worship Leader Grace Balint sings "Stronger"  🎶 I've met the wisdom lady.  I first met her many years ago in the book of Proverbs. God had just opened my heart to know Him so I was ready for the wisdom lady to open her heart to me! When I read her practical, rich words of life  I thought to myself. "Wow. Really? This is powerful. This is good stuff. This is so simple and wonderful...and these beautiful promises!"  Yep. Since then she's become a mentor to my soul. But not before God sent me through many painful storms and dark valleys over the years to show me it was not wise for me to try to control my little world. Hah! I admit it. Control issues cause pain. It means we're trusting in ourselves instead of trusting in God.Yikes. That's called idolatry!  But I hope I've become a teachable, willing student.
